Do learner driver’s need insurance?
Do learner drivers need insurance?
Yes, no one in the UK may drive a car unless they are insured. The learner driver who is a provisional licence holder has to be insured to drive the car he is being supervised in. This insurance may be in the form of all-encompassing insurance as held by approved driving instructor’s, or you may be insured in terms of an add on person on the policy held by the main insurer on the car. The alternative is to apply for stand-alone short-term insurance as advertised on our site. It is a serious infringement of the law if the learner driver (provisional licence holder) does not have clearly definable insurance for the car that he is driving.
